Persian-Canadian cellist Shahrzad Shakeri is an educator, chamber musician, and soloist based in Toronto, Ontario. She has performed in various solo recitals, chamber music ensembles, orchestras, and festivals across Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Shahrzad has been featured in various festivals such as the Chamber Music Festival of Banff,

Académies internationales d’été du Grand Nancy et Nice in France, Orford Music Academy, Scotia Festival of Music, and Tinge Music Festival in France.

Her passion for the cello first led her to France, where she began pursuing her studies in Cello

Performance at the Conservatory in Paris. Shahrzad earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Cello Performance from McGill University in Montréal, Canada.

Throughout her studies, Shahrzad had the opportunity to be mentored by renowned musicians such as Matt Haimovitz, Jérôme Pernoo, Philipe Muller, Raphaël Pidoux, and Hélène Dautry. Shahrzad has also won several awards in several competitions including The Grand Prize for Contemporary Music and The Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran.

Notably, Shahrzad had the honor of working with Matt Haimovitz on his album “Philip Glass,” and was invited to be a part of the Grammy-nominated cello ensemble, Uccello. Shahrzad was also interviewed and featured on the cover of The Ciin Magazine in 2020:

Shahrzad adores her career both as an educator and performer. She is an active teacher in Toronto and she is working at different music institutes such as the Cadenza Studio, Lane school of music, Infiniti strings, North Toronto institute of music, Long and Mcquade, Heidari music school. Teaching has been a significant part of Shahrzad’s career and she is currently building her private studio in Toronto.
